I have an analog TV right now and I wanted to know what a digital box would do.

Answer
A converter box will provide you with your local channels as well as many other high end channels. You will see the difference in picture quality with no static or fuzz. You will need to purchase a compatible HDTV indoor or outdoor antenna to get the best possible reception.

How will the DTV transition affect HD service?

I currently subscribe to non-HD Suddenlink Communications cable television service. A friend of mine told me that once the DTV transition takes place, all television channels that offer such will be available in high-definition service even though I don't subscribe to HD service. I do have a 1080p HDTV, though. Is this true?

Answer
If you have a HDTV television that supports 1080p then you already have the capability on your television to receive your local channel as well as higher channels in digital format for free. All you need is a good indoor or outdoor antenna hooked up to your television. You don't need a digital converter box because your television has a HDTV tuner built in.

However the majority of local stations channels will only broadcast in 720p resolution and not 1080p. 1080p resolution is only used for blu-ray dvd player and or high definition video gaming through the xbox 360 or playstation 3.

As far as your cable, you can still subscribe through them but of course there will be monthly fees. A lot of cable services now offer many channels in High Definition including movie channels. You get better picture quality and more variety in what you want to see.
