Which HDTV is right for me?

Q. I have finally come to the decision to buy a 42" 1080p HDTV for SDTV and most importantly XBOX360. I want a brand that is well known and reliable. My budget is currently £800 - perhaps £900 at a push. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should get and/or where I should buy from?

A. You should look into Panasonic Viera - they have a 1080p 42" model and it will be cheaper than a decent LCD.
The picture quality will also be better and plasma is infinitely faster than LCD, regardless of the refresh rate.
If you're worried about burn in, simply keep your brightness and contrast levels under control for the first 100 hours and then you're good to game. Viera's have a game mode that uses pixel orbiting and shifting to keep image retention away, a problem that is not serious at all on today's plasmas.

If you do notice any image retention from HUD's, simply put a snowy screen on for five minutes and Bob's yer uncle.

Can I buy a decent HD tv that is under $1,000?
Q. or is this impossible? I just want to watch movies and play games on it.

A. $800 - $900 is enough money to buy a 37" or 42" HDTV. So that's a pretty solid size. It would be well suited for any viewing in around 6ft to 9ft. You could most certainly get a good model for both movies and gaming. It is a good enough budget to get a top tier brand and a high quality model (which you want to do, you want a good name).

Right now at Best Buy,

Panasonic TC-L42U12 - 42" 1080p LCD for $900
Panasonic TC-P42U1 - 42" 1080p Plasma for $900
Panasonic TC-L37X1 - 37" 720p LCD for $800

Samsung LN37B550 - 37" 1080p LCD for $850 (on sale)
Samsung LN40B530 - 40" 1080p LCD for $800 (on sale)
Samsung LN40B630 - 40" 1080p 120Hz LCD for $1000 (on sale)

Sony KDL-40V5100 - 40" 1080p 120Hz LCD for $1000 (on sale)

Three of the biggest names in TV manufacturing. All of those models are very strong performers that would serve you well in those size ranges. All options at $1,000 or less (though be careful of some of those on sale, if you wait too long they might creep up over $1,000). You would be well served for both movies and video games with any of those options there.

Information on a led hdtv?
Q. I am searching the market for a led hdtv that was 1080p, 120hz, and priced under $800. I came up with the Insignia™ - Connected TV 42" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LED HDTV (Model: NS-42E859A11).

Other than the information given i am having a hard time finding reviews and other info about this tv. If anyone can find when this tv originally came on the market, and if people think that it is good picture and quality for sports and video games would be great.

A. Insignia is a second tier brand sold by Best Buy, a "house" brand. Not likely to last you more than the two year warranty that comes with it. Nobody gives stellar reviews for Insignia tv's because they are not top quality products. Better off with a Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba, etc.
