How important is "Dynamic Screen Contrast" when considering an LCD HDTV purchase?

Q. I found a great deal online on an HDTV that has all the features and specs I like except one gave me pause. The dynamic screen contrast is 800:1. That is about the lowest ratio I see on these types of TVs but I don't know what it means. Should I avoid this TV because of that low ratio?

A. Contrast ratio is really important because it determines the color quality and vibrancy of your colors.

As for Dynamic Contrast Ratio, don't use this as your criteria. This value doesn't mean anything. All it is tell you maximum contrast ratio. You will typically see this value really high like 5000 or 8000:1.

The value you want to look at is Static Contrast Ratio. A good one is 1500:1 or higher.

Those damn marketers are just trying to confuse the consumer once again with a new spec that is very similar to an old spec.

Is it possible to avoid the black friday insanity and get the same deals online?
Q. I heard from a friend that all of the deals on black friday at walmart will also be available online so you could just stay at home and order the items in the morning instead of rushing and fighting people at the store... Is that true?

A. That is true for most items.

However, you will not be able to get the doorbuster items online.

For example, the Emerson 42" PL-P42W-10A Plasma 720P HDTV for $448 will only be available in stores. First come, first serve.

Therefore, if your items are available online for the same price as they are in store, then you are good to go.

Good Luck!

What time do the black Friday deals appear online?
Q. i want to know when to be ready. I wanna buy a wide HDTV from a good company. I'd be grateful if u could be more specific. Arigato.
