What is the best Amplified HDTV Antenna?

Q. I live in Riverside, California about 50 miles from the transmitters atop Mt. Wilson near Los Angeles. I need the best Amplified HDTV Antenna for this range. My apartment building is built of cinder block so it will have to be in a window. My TV is a Samsung with built in HDTV Receiver.

A. I have a Channel Master with rotor and preamp mounted on a tower. Can pickup station 50 miles from my location. May be to large for a apartment.

Look in the yellow-pages for a local antenna installer in you area and ask them this question. That's how I started my research for my antenna.

Also do some research here.

Best of luck.

How well does an indoor tv antenna work in the South Bay Area?
Q. I'm in the market for an HDTV antenna and was curious if an indoor one will be sufficient or if I need to get one for the roof. I live in the Santa Clara Area.

A. If you are more than about 5 miles from the transmitters, then an indoor antenna may not give you good results.

Check http://www.antennaweb.org and put in your zip code. It will tell you how far away you are and in what direction.

What stations can you receive just through a regular antenna?
Q. I don't watch much tv so I don't want to pay for cable or satellite, however the one thing I really do watch is baseball. And since baseball just started I am trying to figure out if buying a regular tv antenna will let me watch the sports station is Pittsburgh. I live roughly an hour away from Pittsburgh. The station they use to broadcast baseball and hockey is ROOT sports. I see at walmart they have hdtv antennas but I can't seem to find anywhere what type of stations I would even get. Can anybody help me out on this one? Is there an official list of stations somewhere online for different regions? I can't find anything

A. Follow the steps in this antenna selector: http://www.winegard.com/kbase/antenna_selector.php

If the stations you would like to receive show as green or "strong", just select the "Strong" checkbox in step two, and it will show you the top three antennas that meet the minimum requirements to receive those stations.

Once you find the signal levels of stations in your area, you can view the complete list of antennas that will pick them up on these pages:
